Friday March 10th, the Carolina Lady Eagles headed up to Northern Virginia for the final time and the most important weekend of the season. It was Districts weekend. Game number one was against the Florida Lady Vipers, a team the Eagles had not played but seen at a couple tournaments. Puck dropped at 8:00am for a game that was expected to be a close one and it was a very close one. The score was an even 1-1 at the end of the first period and an even 2-2 heading into the final period. The Vipers struck next to take the lead. In the final minutes with the clock winding down the Lady Eagles put a couple shots off the post and came extremely close but could not light the lamp. The final score was 3-2 Vipers.

The Lady Eagles, with their bench still short due to injury, headed into Saturday's 2:45pm game knowing it was a must win if the team wanted to keep the season rolling. Their opponent for this crucial match up was their rival, the NOVA Ice Dogs. The Eagles did not get the start that they wanted and headed into the second period down 1-0. The Eagles squad couldn't seem to slow the Ice Dogs scoring in the second but did manage to score a shorthanded goal to send the game into the third period down 5-1. The Eagles regrouped in the intermission and reminded themselves that they had comeback against this team earlier this season when faced with a similar deficit. Unfortunately the Ice Dogs kept capitalizing on every opportunity and the Eagles just could not overcome the unlucky bounces and rediculous saves. The final score was 7-1 Ice Dogs.

Having gone 0-2 in 2 absolutely heart breaking games in the preliminary round the Eagles did not make it to the championship game. After attempting to dry the tears, most Eagle families stuck around and spent time together at the hotel for one final time this season. What wasn't known at the time was that the season was not over and the team would head to a tournament in St. Louis the very next weekend.

Side note: the NOVA Ice Dogs defeated the Florida Lady Vipers in the championship and were defeated in the quarter final round of nationals by the eventual champions.
