January 21st and 22nd the team headed up to the Reston, Virginia and Rockville, Maryland for the final regular season road trip. It was a full weekend with an exhibition game Saturday afternoon and league games Saturday night, Sunday morning, and Sunday afternoon. Saturday afternoon's match was against the Montgomery Blue Devils and was a great start to the weekend as the team earned a 7-0 victory. It was a special win since Shelby Reaugh netted her first ever career hat trick. Carolyn Whitney also had a multi-goal game, adding two to the count. Saturday's league game against the Reston Raiders was much closer. Lauren Smith had two goals in the effort. Carolina escaped with a 5-4 win and two more points in the standings. The evening at the hotel was highlighted with a few intense chess matches and some very spicy Indian food.
Sunday featured a league game against the Montgomery Blue Devils that was much tighter than the afternoon before. Whitney led the charge and scored the second Eagles hat trick of the weekend. The Eagles left the locker room with a 4-1 win and two more points in the all important league standings. For the teams' fourth game in 24 hours, the team played a make-up game against Navy. Exhausted lineup and all the Eagles squad had a 7-1 victory. Defensemen got in on the offensive fun, scoring 3 goals. Whitney had another hat trick to bring her weekend total to 8 goals in 4 games. All in all it was a pretty successful weekend going 4 and 0 and earning all 6 potential points in the league standings. The Eagles squad had a hat trick of hat tricks too. One more official league game along with two exhibition games are scheduled before the team enters tournament time.
