Eagles Move to 6-0 at Home
December 17th and 18th the Carolina Lady Eagles hosted the Montgomery Blue Devils for 3 games. Game number 1 was on Saturday the 17th at 3:10pm. The Eagles managed to start with their right foot forward as the team scored 2 goals in the first period followed by another 2 goals in the second. The third period only saw 1 goal from the Eagles. Despite shooting 63 shots on net the Carolina girls finished with just 5 goals. The team shutout the Blue Devils with the final score being 5-0. Between games, time was filled with Secret Santa gift exchanges and poster making for the fundraiser. later that night
Game number 2 of the weekend was a special one, it was the annual fundraiser game. This year, proceeds from the event went to the ASPCA of Wake County. Children came to see Santa and grab some food before watching a great game of girls hockey. The blackout game kicked off at 8:10pm and the Lady Eagles gained a quick 2 goal lead. Each team was held scoreless in the second period but the home team came out strong for the third. Another 3 goals were scored, propelling the girls to another 5-0 victory and Lehning's second shutout of the weekend.
The teams returned to Raleigh Center Ice Sunday morning for the official league game. The match was another physical one but the Eagles stayed strong. The team scored 1 goal in the first period, 2 in the second period and another 1 in the third to keep the lead over the Blue Devils. The team scored a total of 4 goals on Sunday (not counting a couple that were waved off) and held the visitors to another shutout. The 4-0 final score made shutout number 3 in as many games. For only the second time this season, the majority of the Eagles did not have a long ride home! Some of the girls headed into a partial week of school, while all had a week full of practices before the holidays and the Polar Bear Holiday Tournament in Connecticut.
